Our blog is dedicated to seasonal living: cooking with local produce (sometimes our own), sewing for the home and searching out vintage bargains.

We believe that most of the pleasure is in the journey - in the making and creating, even if in a simple way.

A bird in the tree

Well, I'm quite familiar with the inside of our loft now - more than I want to be - but I still can't find two sets of lights that we put outside.  I'm running out of places to look.

The tree lights are working though and I've added a couple of new homemade decorations to all the others we keep from year to year...a little felt heart with shiny beads, and a white dove of peace.

Christmas Biscuits

This are spicy and nice and somehow taste so much better than shop-bought biscuits - oh and they are very simple to make
8 oz plain flour
4oz butter
2 good teaspoons ground ginger
Pinch of cinnamon
4oz icing sugar
1 beaten egg
Sieve the flour, spice and icing sugar. Mix. Rub in the butter. Bring it all together with the egg. Cut out with some Christmas cutters. Bake in a moderately hot oven for about 15 minutes. If you want to see Noreen Making these, check out You Tube: A Homespun Year

Plenty of snow

There's been loads more snow since iI took this photo - these agapanthus seed heads have been completely flattened.  But they did look gorgeous, just for a few hours.
